M SPORT EXHAUST SYSTEM.
The engine’s immense thrust is accompanied by a stirring soundtrack courtesy of the specially designed dual-branch exhaust system. Creating that unmistakable sound, it feeds into the pronounced quartet of tailpipes finished in Black Chrome. Fine-tuning of the engine sound, using electrically controlled flaps, suppresses intrusive frequency ranges and gives greater voice to the engine’s linear power delivery and high-revving tendencies. Its acoustic character automatically changes according to the driving mode selected.
M CHASSIS.
Bespoke modifications on the M8 Competition translate first and foremost into superior steering precision, transitional responses and cornering dynamics.
Contributing to the ultimate M experience, the chassis setup has been carefully adjusted to the engine’s higher output. In addition, the versatility of the chassis also caters for everyday use and long distance comfort. Increased camber at the front axle, meanwhile, enhances the ability to absorb lateral forces through cornering. By fitting the toe links with ball joints instead of rubber mounts, it has led to precise wheel guidance at the rear axle.
KEY FEATURES.
M ADAPTIVE SUSPENSION.
Configured with the most characteristically M suspension set-up as standard, the M8 Competition models ensure versatility and comfort every time. The system is supported by the electronically controlled shock absorbers from the adaptive suspension that optimise road contact and respond based on driving behaviour. Basic damper characteristics can also be adjusted via the M Setup menu. The driver can select from three modes – COMFORT, SPORT and the track-focused SPORT PLUS.
M COOLING SYSTEM.
The sophisticated cooling system has been adapted precisely to the engine’s elevated performance, construction and technological details. The central cooling module is flanked by two high-temperature water circuits. Indirect intercoolers are integrated into the low-temperature cooling circuit, while the high-temperature cooling circuit supplies the engine blocks and two turbochargers with coolant.
